A German company, Photovolt Development Partners (PVDP), is planning to build a massive solar farm (the "Botley West Solar Farm") on Blenheim land much of it within the setting of the Blenheim Palace World Heritage Site. If the plan is approved there would be two million solar panels covering 3,200 acres of land 75% of which is Green Belt. In addition, there would be 110 kilometres of security fencing.
C-POW recognises that solar power must be part of our future energy supply but we believe that the scale of this project and its vicinity to the World Heritage site makes it unacceptable. We therefore support the work of Stop Botley West.
Here is a link to an informative Sunday Times article about the solar project: Sunday Times - 04.08.24.pdf
The Planning Inspectorate will examine the project later this year and will then make a recommendation to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate change (currently Ed Miliband). The Secretary of State is not obliged to follow that recommendation.
