450 houses near Bladon Roundabout. Deadline for sending comments to CDC is 25 February 2025.
C-POW was formed in 2019 by a group of residents who wanted to protect the community of Old Woodstock, part of the historic town of Woodstock in Oxfordshire. We are a community of a little over 250 dwellings. Old Woodstock stands on the edge of beautiful fields which overlook the scenic Glyme valley.
Our goals are:
to protect our community, natural environment and heritage from overdevelopment
to secure improvements to our infrastructure, particularly in relation to healthcare provision.
Our initial goal was to oppose the building by Blenheim of 180 homes on the field to the east of Hill Rise. Our members made hundreds of objections to the planning authority (West Oxfordshire District Council) and the authority refused Blenheim planning permission. But Blenheim appealed to the Planning Inspectorate and won the appeal.
Since then, we have focused on other planning issues which could affect our community. Much of the land in and around Woodstock is owned by Blenheim and they want to build houses at scale. There are three major Blenheim housing developments in Woodstock - Park View (300 homes), Banbury Road (235 homes) and Hill Rise (180 homes), making a total of 715 new homes.
Blenheim also want to build 450 homes at the Bladon roundabout and are eyeing a large site near the existing Banbury Road site which could potentially accommodate up to 1000 homes. The influx of new residents would strain the infrastructure of Woodstock. Most pressing is the need for a new GP's surgery, which is struggling to provide healthcare for the existing population. See "Our Campaigns" for details on what we are doing to oppose new housing developments and to promote new infrastructure.
